The A&A or Improved Pension Program is a benefit
available to eligible veterans who served our country during a period of war and
their surviving spouses.
Created in 1951 and enhanced in 2001, this benefit is funded by Congress and is
designed specifically to help those who served our country’s military in its greatest
time of need. The pension is for non-service related disability and can keep veterans
or their surviving spouse out of a nursing home and extend their resources because
it helps pay for care in:
- Independent Living Communities
- Assisted Living Communities
- Nursing Homes
- In-Home Care
The A&A Pension can provide up to:
- $2,540 per month for two married veterans
- $1,949 per month for a veteran with a dependent/spouse
- $1,644 per month to a veteran
- $1,056 per month to a surviving spouse
These rates can change, and are at the discretion of the Veterans Administration.
